Want to learn how to timber frame? This craft dates back thousands of years and still holds today!
Join us for a weekend intensive in timber framing. We will lay out timbers using the traditional square rule method developed in the early 1800s. Participants will learn proper hand tool use and sharpening techniques and will also have the opportunity to make pegs using a shaving horse.
Our instructors, Nick, Andy, and Mike, will demonstrate how to lay out and cut a mortise and tenon, lay out and cut braces, lay out and cut step lap rafter seats, and more.
At TPTF, we practice forest-to-frame design. We will tour the 33 acres of woodland on the property and discuss local tree species and how they factor into our decision-making, function, and aesthetic in the frame design.
No prior knowledge is necessary! Upon registration, you will receive a list of tools needed for the class and recommended reading.
